Oskar Böhme

Brass Sextet

Oskar Böhme (1870-1938) was a German cornet virtuoso and composer who spent much of his career in Russia, where he became a leading figure in brass performance and pedagogy. His Brass Sextet reflects the rich, late Romantic style of the early 20th century, combing lyrical melodies with brilliant, idiomatic brass writing. The work highlights both ensemble blend and individual virtuosity, offering warm chorale-like sound alongside sparkling fanfares and expressive solo lines.

This performance was taken from Tatiana Giesler’s Doctoral recital at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2025.
